I’ve learnt that I get the most joy from helping people. A small gift that someone really wants can make a huge difference. Sometimes that gift comes in the form of a genuine compliment.
I’ve learnt that it’s not wrong to want to make money. Talking about money is taboo in the UK but not in other countries. Actually, if you set a goal to make money, you are more likely to make money.
I’ve learnt to lean into what I really want to say in a given moment. Candour makes it more fun to meet someone for the first time, especially when it’s virtual.
I’ve learnt to reach out to people I feel I click with for coffee or dinner. This requires going out on a limb if you don’t know someone well. The upside is a new friendship.
I’ve learnt that I should hire coaches, particularly in fields where I want to develop skills. One of the biggest results comes from the fact that having a meeting about the topic makes you think about it more.
I’ve learnt that a good test of an adviser is whether they ask questions. If someone tries to give you advice without asking you questions first, it’s a tell that they are projecting their own beliefs about the world onto you.
I’ve learnt that there are no rules for starting a business. It’s mostly about doing something for a long time and avoiding ego traps. It’s hard to outcompete someone who loves what they do.
It’s TCLA’s birthday today. Happy 7 years. I am completely thankful to you for supporting me in this journey.
Seven is a fantastic age to be!! And almost time for (the business equivalent of?) the tooth fairy to appear!
Great, happy 7. Lesson 2 has worked for me. Never hurts to plan esp on finances
