Fun milestones over five years
TCLA turned five last month, which is a cool milestone that has gone by so quickly. I still feel there is so much to do, but here's a few lessons I wish I'd known when starting out:
1. If you want to become good at a skill, whether it’s writing, public speaking or X, show up week after week and embrace the ability to be bad until you get better. You’ve got to be willing to stick to it for a long enough time frame, which is why it helps if you enjoy the process.
2. If you’re questioning whether you’re ‘qualified enough’ to share your work, know that there isn’t a point when this happens.
3. What you see online has been carefully curated to present success. At the same time, you should learn how to present ‘your story’. People like to root for something.
4. Seeking help and forgiving yourself for the things you struggle with can go a long way to providing the space to improve on them. Your confidence will build from owning the fact that you are not perfect. When you become comfortable with yourself, you can take more risks because your self worth is not based on whether you succeed.
Now the lessons are over, here are some fun milestones over the past five years (unfortunately I can’t upload a PDF here, so this will take you to my LinkedIn.)
Finally, thank you. It makes me very happy to hear that people read this because a) it’s me sharing my personal thoughts and b) I see this as something I’ll keep up until I’m old.
I’m glad to have you on the journey.
